A group of eccentric college kids, struggling to get through their hectic exams, decide to throw a holiday party, adding a Secret Santa exchange for fun. Little do they know a killer is in town and has made a special list and each one of them has a special present waiting for them. A throwback to classic holiday horror films from the 70s and 80s.

Secret Sants is a new slasher film that is made to look a whole lot like retro horror films from back in the day. Now, I clearly am a fan of that sort of thing seeing as how I did the same thing in my movie, but this one actually manages to pull that effect off and be pretty interesting from start to finish. That is a hard thing for most movies like this to do because usually, they lose steam before the end, this one does not. The story starts off with two drunk college girls coming home after a night of drinking and then we strongly take a Black Christmas turn to set up the movie and let us all know that we have a slasher on our hands and he’s delivering gifts and then killing people with those gifts. The movie offers up some hot ladies and some funny moments and is probably far more interesting and entertaining than it has any right be. It is hard to point out just who our “final girl” is and that leaves the door open for some unpredictability that also helps make this one you’ll watch and never be too sure what is going to happen next. Some of the kills work better than others, but the movie is never meant to be taken too seriously and as long as you don’t you should be complaining too much about what you see.

As the movie goes it kind of becomes a “who done it” of sorts. I have to admit I liked the twist. Looking back now on it I probably should have guessed it, but it was done good enough regardless. If you love slasher movies and Christmas horror movies I think Secret Santa is one you’ll want to be sure to check out and perhaps add it on to your yearly Christmas horror movie watch list you pop in every year around Christmas. I was a little late to the party on this one or I’m sure I’d have been having friends over to see it and show it off around the big day. If you dig indie stuff and if you don’t then I don’t know why you’d be on this site, then you should seek out this one and check it out. This one has me interested in what Mike McMurran will be doing next for sure.
