Hidden deep in the south of France, practically untouched by the modern age, is a place known by many as ‘the Zone’. In this space, the supernatural is an everyday reality of life. Magic is everywhere. It is reason. It is currency. It is unquestionable fact. Prepare yourself for a journey into life on the other side of the mirror. Legendary filmmaker Richard Stanley (HARDWARE, DUST DEVIL, as well as a string of stunning documentaries) has never been under spoken about his studies in mysticism and the occult. A trained anthropologist whose brain glows with secret knowledge and forgotten histories, Stanley has spent decades exploring the literal fantastic.

As we learn in the opening moments of this documentary, this whole thing is basically about the weirdest damn thing that has ever happened to director Richard Stanley. From there we have a series of accounts from not only him but others, we have some very creative camera shots of the location, and we totally find a way to make a documentary about as artsy as they can. The whole story is an interesting one but then again I’m not so sure that anything with Richard Standley can ever be dull. Are the stories we hear about in this thing for real or all drug fueled trips? It’s hard to say really, but I do enjoy hearing these people talk about it, especially Stanley. I will admit from time to time I felt things seemed to drag or be a bit too elaborate for what we have here but all in all it seems to work regardless just enough to keep you watching.

If you feel like this might be something for you. And I’d say if you are a fan of Richard Stanley this most certainly is. You might want to buy it now because the first 2500 units come with a bonus DVD that includes the following short films from Richard Stanley, VOICE OF THE MOON, THE WHITE DARKNESS & THE SECRETGLORY with new Richard Stanley Intros and Commentary. All in all, that makes for a very good package for anyone who’s into the weird stuff story and shorts from Stanley.
